Our neighbours put up a bunkhouse with BIG lights that are on from dusk until bedtime all winter long and shine across our yard and into our living room.
In early spring we asked if it would be possible to turn those lights off.
HIS answer was “sure, no problem”. (HE is reasonable).
A few days later, when the lights were still on, I sent him an email reminding him of the request.
We can only assume from the lack of reply that his decision was over-ridden by HERS, the woman who refuses to even consider or speak with us about any collaborative efforts regarding our adjacent properties.
Fine, we are learning to deal with her b.s. and in this case, we, unfortunately, are being forced to ruin ‘her view’.
I’ll never forget the one time we had dinner at their house, and she indicated her lovely view, sweeping her hand right across our lot.
At the time, I thought, “I’ll do what I can to preserve YOUR view, you just need to work with us to build in a nice privacy fence”.
Sadly, any and every suggestion we made to increase privacy (i.e. remove the existing line of cedars which was place along the property line with a new line place on either or both sides) was met with a ‘talk to the hand’ on HER part.
So, today our landscapers arrived to build a 2 foot berm on which 7 foot cedars will be planted to mitigate the obnoxious lights from their bunkhouse.
Seven grand… when they could have saved energy and simply turned off the lights to their bunkhouse.
Granted, these are city people who apparently don’t really appreciate the beauty of living on a lake and having a dark sky at night. Their whole house is lit up like a freaking Christmas tree, front to back, all night long. Theirs is the ONLY house on the street that obscures the beautiful night sky. Everyone else has the sense to preserve the natural beauty of the place.
WE moved here to enjoy the natural beauty of country life and dark skies at night.
So, WE did what we could to block their ridiculousness.
