The red buses you will see on “The Going To The Sun Road” are as much an attraction as Glacier Park itself. These coaches were built by the White Motor Company in the 1930’s. They feature a rollback canvas top that allows for breathtaking views of the mountains.
They got their “jammers” name from the days when they had standard transmissions and the drivers had to jam the gears on the mountain road. The buses were retired in 1999 because of safety problems.
An agreement with Ford was reached to restore the buses and the entire fleet was shipped to Michigan. The buses where converted to use propane fuel at this time. They returned to service in 2002 and will hopefully be transporting park visitors for many years to come.
