The big news from France this week is that as of February 1st, smoking will be banned in French schools, hospitals and youth centres. A wider ban from Jan. 1, 2008 will incorporate bars, restaurants and workplaces.
The French aren’t happy about the change, according to this comment in a Reuters press release this morning…
“It’s bullshit,” fumed Paris office worker Aida Malika, shivering outside her workplace in Paris.
“They’re taking away our small pleasures. They’re just treating us like cattle, that’s really what it is,” she said, before heading back to work.
Fines range from 68 euros for individuals to 135 euros for building management that allows smoking to take place.
C’est la vie.
