I don’t much care for water or wet things.
I try to stay out of the rain and refuse to walk on wet grass.
So, it was a shock to me when we were staying at East Harbor State Park on Lake Erie and my mother took me to the beach and pulled me into the lake.
It wasn’t enough that my feet got wet, but she pulled until I could no longer touch bottom.
Eureka!
I was swimming.
I swam back to my dad, who stood there taking pictures and was laughing hysterically at my plight.
Worse, my mother pulled me back into the deeps just as I reached the safety of shore.
Little did I know that their plan was to have me swim in 5 great lakes on our cross-country adventure.
I was thrown into Lake Ontario at Marie Curis Park not once, but twice, by my dad. He did the same at Lakes Huron and Michigan.
So, that was 4 of the 5. I dreaded the prospect of #5, Lake Superior.
Fortunately, their travel plans didn’t include Lake Superior — however, they made up for it by throwing me into Great Salt Lake at Antelope Island State Park.
Little did they know that salt water is FUN to swim in!!!
