Jasper the Chocolate Labrador celebrated his 9th birthday on February 11th, 2019. On his morning walk, he encountered a coyote.
This YouTube video commemorates that encounter.
Ya, OK, I was slightly miffed that Jasper didn’t even pee on the thing, especially considering the first time he saw that sculpture, he went absolutely ballistic barking at the thing. I’m totally kicking myself for not having brought my phone / camera with us on THAT walk.
Otherwise, his birthday was a total blast.
Jasper and I hiked up to the ‘Green Rock’ at Lost Dutchman State Park in the Tonto National Forest near Apache Junction, Arizona.
After that, Ed and I took him to ‘the bar’.
The dog cookie bar. Jasper especially appreciates doggy biscottis.
Anyway, as always, Jasper had a fantastic birthday celebration.
He even got treated to his very favorite food ever – cheese. And not just any cheese. He enjoyed a small slab of Tillamook Cheddar cheese.
We love our dog.

ROFL! He’s a smart boy. Re the coyote: No smell, no problem.
Re: the dog cookie bar — he knows what he wants. 🙂

I had a good morning chuckle from your remarks and video.
Years ago I lived in White Rock very close to the ocean, park and a small river.
I was designated the early morning walk person along the trail beside the river leading to the park and ocean.
During the blackberry season the smell in the air was almost intoxicating.
As I walked “Rufus”, the Husky, along the trail I would chow down on the blackberries in my reach and Rufus would very delicately eat the ones at his level.
Thanks for bringing back loving memories you can see the river at the bottom of the map.

Hi John,
Thanks kindly for sharing your memories of walks with Rufus. “Rufus”… great name, BTW.
Makes me think of home, where there are blackberry and raspberry bushes along the street and Jasper and I stop to munch on them during our walks.
Have a lovely day!
Cheers,
Ros
