Our adventure at the Singapore Zoo Night Safari started when we were picked up at our hotel. The driver of the van must have just watched a movie that featured a car chase scene as weaved and darted through the streets. He deposited us at a meeting location where we checked in and had a colored Night Safari sticker applied to our shirts.
We waited and when our group was called we boarded buses for the drive to the zoo. On the way there the guide went over how the evenings events would take place.
We had opted for the optional dinner and on arrival we were taken to the Ulu Ulu Restaurant. The buffet had many Asian and western selections. After dinner night had fallen and we made our way to the trams that would take us through the zoo.
Our tram guide cautioned that there was to be no flash photography as this would startle the animals and assure that none were seen by the groups that followed. Once our eyes became accustomed to the muted lighting we saw the different animals in thier compounds. The animals seems to be unaware of our presence and continued feeding or lounging.
We saw elephants, lions, hyenas, buffaloes, giraffes and many others. The layout and lighting is remarkable. I knew that there were barriers between us and the wildlife but they were not evident even when we passed a only few feet from them. After the ride there are several walking routes to be taken but time was limited so we took in the animal show.
The animal show takes place in an amphitheater and the performers both human and animal are delightful. This is one part not to be missed.
The time restrictions of the tour did not allow us to see everything we would have liked. When we return to Singapore we will visit the zoo again but on our own. Cabs are inexpensive so a trip to the zoo is only a few dollars.
