Too frequently I hear from people who are sadly disappointed by their lack of online business success.
Almost as frequently the main reason for their failure to achieve success can very simply be explained with the following story about the preacher in the flood.
The water was up to the top of the church steps when a National Guard truck came by. “Get in, Preacher! The water’s rising.”
And the preacher said, “No. I trust in the Lord.”
The water rose and flooded the church. The preacher climbed up on the roof. Two boys came by in a John boat.
“Get in, Preacher! The water’s rising.”
And the preacher said, “No. I trust in the Lord.”
The water rose higher, and the preacher climbed up on the steeple. A helicopter came by and dropped a sling.
“Grab the sling, Preacher! The water’s rising.”
And the preacher said, “No. I trust in the Lord.”
The water rose even higher, and the preacher drowned.
In heaven, he said, “Lord, I had such trust in you. Why did you let me drown?”
And the Lord said, “Dummy! I sent you a deuce-and-a-half, a john boat and a helicopter!!”
So, if you find your business floundering, remember that success ultimately depends on your ability to use the tools you have and take action every day.

This parable makes you think. Anyone that has been seriously attempting this business for a month or two has a drive full of information. Just taking action on one piece of that information a day or a week is sure to see some results
I’m gonna remember this parable – quite cool. Reminds me of a pivotal flashback in Dan Brown’s book Angels and Demons.
I’m not religious, but they say “God works in mysterious ways”.

Dear Ros,
Please let me preface my comment by saying that if there is a God, then there are two of them. A law of Physics in the Known Universe called the Duality of Opposites,e.g. ying and yang, negative and positive, matter anti-matter etc. etc.
God has a tendency to help those who help themselves. You can open the door for people but they have to walk in.
Sometimes I have to tell my friends who are right wing religious fanatics that God also gave us a brain. And, he or she intended us to think with it.
Sometimes I just sit, but most of the time I sit and think.
Me, myself and I have tried to help many people who would not help themselves. Sometimes they have to really hit bottom or they enjoy the sympathy they get from others when they always complain of failure. Negative re enforcement.
You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him or her drink.
And, don’t forget to turn off the biggest waste of time in the world, the slime that oozes out of your Television Set. The more you watch, the less you know!
Shame on you for watching Oprah Ros! LOL

it is a great story that teaches us that God will extend help not in some form of celestial force but as something we can see, touch and feel.

I read this post I think three times, and couldn’t for the life of me figure out why it was titled ‘Why did you let me down?.
Even though I read the story about the drowning man, and even knew it before I read this, I kept wondering about this until I came across the title somewhere else.
More often than not, the mind sees what it expects to see. Quite a marketing lesson in itself, that. 😉

Loved this story. Hard work = success, however it’s not an overnight process. Most brick and mortar businesses require 3-5 yrs. before seeing a profit, so even though my profit is small, I’m already ahead of the curve.
Regardless of the current economy, I believe hard work will be rewarded.

Wow! this is a great inspirational story especially for those who are floundering with their onlne business. So many people are forgeting that it takes alot of dedication and patience to succeed online, sometimes that’s not even enough.

I love your story and agree that you need to be responsible for your own success however I think many of the guru’s plying their ware’s online are guilty of hype about the success of the ‘take action’ they promote. Usually by the time ‘an angle’ is pushed to the masses, its exhausted.
People buy into them hoping this will be the ‘system’ and it turns out for most that it isn’t and that upsets people because they’ve spent more money and time. Its more a case of being disappointed that the hype didn’t deliver and disappointment in yourself that once again you got sucked in – I can understand that.
Please though lets not ignore the fact that there must also be a level of accountability that mentors, success coaches (or whomever professes to be able to help you in an area of life) must also have – yes individuals are responsible for their own success but if part of my pathway to that includes hiring an internet marketing coach for example, what are reasonable expectations?
