I’m at a place where I could almost HATE the month of April.
After spending 6 winter months travelling through Arizona in our RV, returning to Canada can be downright depressing for the first while. The maintenance workload in the RV is minimal, whereas all we see on arrival at home is WORK, Work and more work — despite having the gardener do a spring clean-up prior to our arrival.
OMG … that sounds SO pompous.
But imagine for a moment that almost all your responsibilities are suspended for 6 months and then you come to what should be ‘home’ only to find that endless work and appointments await, such as:
- major dust and spider web removal
- application of Home Defense to prevent further spider infiltration within your home
- planning the annual indoor and outdoor ‘improvements’ and ‘renos’ and other necessary changes required of living in a ‘heritage’ home’ on a huge lot that needs constant
- grass-cutting
- weed eradication followed by…
- weekly weed eradication
- dental visit
- the doggy’s annual physical and rabies shot
- your eyesight check
- visits with the banker and accountant because it is tax time
- your own annual physical, followed by…
- x-rays
- blood test
- and other interminable tests (because you are of a certain age)
Blah, blah, blah.
I’m getting to the point where I could ditch the beautiful home, live full-time in our RV and just deal with the tax and medical crap in April.
Anyone get where I am coming from? Please DO share!!!

Rosalind you have a great life 6 months on the road and making money on the internet – WOW.
I am home bound and have to have oxygen 24/7.
Have large home and I still take care of it but now it takes twice as long.
Am trying to make a living on the net.
Just remember your one of the few who has made it BIG!
And hey we all get older every day.
Take care of yourself.

Hey Bob,
Thanks for sharing and yes, you are right. When I stop to consider what could be – a situation like yours – mine seems pretty bright.
I whine and then the next day I’m fine and happy. Part of my psycho-depressive self… and no, that’s not a formal diagnosis. π
Hugs,
Ros

Hi Ros,,
For a smart Dutch girl, i would have thought you would have seen the light and unloaded the house a couple of years ago.
The last time i was in Penticton, I distinctly remember there were RV parks in and around the city.
Sounds like a no brainer to me.

Rosalind Gardner says
Hey Grant,
LOL… I hear you. But the house is my retirement investment. Don’t want to cash in too soon!
Besides, for all the whining I did yesterday, I spent the last six hours weeding and pruning and had a GREAT time.
Stuff shifts… fluctuates.
Who knows what tomorrow will bring?
Cheers,
Ros

i would love to have my own home and RV! It is true,The Grass is always Greener over there!
Rosalind Gardner says
Ah, you’re right. I really have nothing to complain about. π
Howard Galaway says
Hey Ros, Try Peppermint oil in a spray bottle. (A few drops with water added) Spiders and Mice repellent. I use it instead of the poison stuff and it smells great too!. If peppermint isn’t available spearmint works as well. place a few drops on a cotton pad in your kitchen cabinets. Spring cleaning can be a pain at tines.
Rosalind Gardner says
Hey Howard,
What a great tip, thank you! I love the smell of peppermint, so that’s what I will do. PLUS it won’t hurt other animals (deer and my dog) so that’s a big bonus. Thanks!
Cheers,
Ros

Hey Rosalind
I must be greedy I want both.
I love my motorhome. I love the simplicity and freedom of life on the road, especially rambling around Europe.
I also love coming home to my great ‘lock up and leave’ home, cooking for friends and family, and and my lovely garden
– I couldn’t choose!

Hi Teresa,
‘Lock up and leave’ … you said a mouthful there. That’s exactly what I need now! π
Enjoy!

Rosalind,
I have been watching your winter adventures with great interest because it’s been a thought for me to do the same after taking 5 week road trip thru Utah and Arizona a few yard back.
I’ve been thinking how nice it would be to spend winters in a warmer place and tried 2 weeks in Florida this winter… Returning before winter was over was such an unpleasant shock.
I can’t thank you and Ed enough for your postings and photographs. You are a great inspiration.
Best wishes with you Mum, I know how thorny and difficult my Mother can be, but you only have one, I’m sure you will find what you need when the time comes.
Cheers!
Christine.
PS we have never me but I was a friend of Ed’s back from the 80’s as Ibwas Terry’s girlfriend for a few years
Rosalind Gardner says
Hey Christine,
Actually, we did meet once… a million years ago. π
I can’t remember, it was either at Ed’s or Terry’s place.
Thanks for your comment about my postings. I’ve actually been very neglectful of them these past few years. There is SO much more to share but I’ve gotten into a big rut as a writer. So, it’s REALLY nice to hear that you’ve found what little I’ve written about helpful.
Thanks too for the good wishes re my Mom. We’ll find a way through and thank god for Ed… he has always been the perfect foil between us.
BTW, please know that you are always welcome to visit. Any friend of Ed’s is a friend of mine.
Hugs,
Ros
