Last year during Affiliate Summit West, I blogged about my experience at the Rio All Suites Hotel in Las Vegas.
If you read that post, you can see by the picture on the right that not much has changed in terms of house-keeping, or retrieval of room service accoutrements. When I arrived on Saturday afternoon, there were 2 glasses outside the door to my room, which is where they stayed until Tuesday, the morning of my departure. For all I know, they’re probably still there.
The same elevator buttons are still stuck, meaning a stop at the 8th or 11th floor regardless of whether anyone has called the elevator. A word to the Rio – surely you can afford to take the elevator out of service for an hour to replace the panel. No doubt that the service charges will be recouped in as little time by getting your patrons to the casino floor just that much faster.
Shutters bar service is still terrible until about midnight unless you are sitting and playing at the terminals. After midnight and until at least 4am, it gets very good regardless of terminal use. Even water is quickly dispensed with a smile at that time of day – or night:-)
Still no bottle openers in the rooms, so if you pick up a brewskie to go at the store, you have to open it there. So, forget buying one to put in the fridge for later unless you like your beer flat.
Outrageous conference rate. I paid $169 plus tax each night I was there. On checking Expedia just now, I find I could have picked up the same room for an average of $69.00US per night, (Sunday for $117, Monday and Tuesday at $45). My bad, I should have known better.
Completely outrageous long distance rates.
I paid $11.79 and $13.08 for 2 long distance calls that literally lasted only seconds as there was no answer at the number I called.
As for the TV, well, poor Joy Behar didn’t look very healthy as you can see.
Once again, it wasn’t all bad. One of the servers at Starbucks inquired as to whether I was leaving that day, and when I answered in the affirmative, she told me to have a nice trip. Such a simple gesture, yet so nice.
Anyway, I’m all for second chances, but won’t risk a third. If Affiliate Summit West 2011 is held at the Rio, I’ll be staying at the Palms. 🙂

Ros, I stayed at the Rio two years ago for Affiliate Summit, and the problems were virtually identical to what you’ve described. I’m pretty sure the elevator stopped on those same two floors for me too.
I’m less forgiving, I guess, because I decided to never stay at the Rio again after the first experience. No second chances here 🙂

Hi Ros,
Going to NAMS3 in Atalanta staying at the Crowne Plaza never gave the trays sitting in the hallways much thought until your post.
Hmm, Is it a different union?
I found each and every time ordering in they took the tray when I left it on the bed.
My problem is they have hard time being ADA compliant, am I the only walking challenged person who travels?
Thanks for the warning!
A “Tab” is sounding better every day, shower at the “Flying J”.
Don’t make Tabs anymore there are other options.

Oh, I just cracked up! Had a truly blasé meal at the Rio.
Yes, stay at the Palms : )

I totally agree Rosalind. I stayed at the Rio for Aff Summit and was very disappointed. Compared to the Palms, which had a much better rate during the time frame, it just doesn’t compare. It was definitely convenient being in the Rio – just a short jaunt to the conference and nice for power naps between meetings – but I don’t think I’ll ever stay there again.

I really think that the powers that be, regarding the Summit location should look into a different place. It’s not like there aren’t a lot
to choose from in Las Vegas.
